The Holiday that Can Never Be Eclipsed

This Easter was different. It was our first Easter away from our families, which made us awfully blue for a little while. But it was also our first Easter in DC and it turned out to be great fun. The large, beautiful church down the way woke us with joyous bell songs. We are not very religious people, but it was lovely nonetheless. We slept in, made a large unhealthy breakfast, cracked Cascarones eggs over each others heads, watched Pushing Daisies and The Wizard of Oz, made a large dinner that was followed with chocolate cake, and just enjoyed being together.






Saturday night, we assembled the Cascarones confetti eggs while watching Doctor Who (which was AWESOME). The husband and I spent about two hours punching the confetti using a one hole paper punch and a Lush catalog. Also, the tissue paper we used was from a Hello Holiday package I received this past week. Yay for recycling/reusing!  We also decorated with this banner that we found on the Alison Show. So cute!

I cracked the confetti egg over Icky's head with just my hand and we made  absolutely sure that he didn't ingest anything.

Country Cousins (Nikki really hates this title...) Part 1

For the past couple of days we've had the pleasure of playing host to our good friends (and my cousin) Nikki and her husband, John. This was John's first trip to DC and we had less than 48 hours to tour the city- so we took him on an exhaustive crash course of the city's highlights. The first night they were here, we went to Chinatown for dinner and then walked to the White House (although it looks totally different as they build bleachers/stages for the inauguration). On Wednesday, we went to BTS or Burger Tap and Shake for lunch, we scoured Georgetown for cupcakes and paper goods, ran through the Natural History Museum and the American History museum (both were completely empty as this is the off season, however half of the American History museum was being redone), visited the monuments (the reflecting pool has finally been refilled), and ended the night at 2Amy's Napolean Pizzeria (which is MY FAVORITE).
